Test from Dr. Leong

Year 1 (7.30-8.00): Switch On and Off the Computer

1. Self-concerns

As usual, I disciplined them before they enter the ICT lab by taking off their shoes, arrange it and lining up. Then, I have to remind them the basic rules in computer lab they to follow such as no running, have to keep quiet and etc. If they aware of the rules, it is not difficult to control them. The important is engaging the students to do the interesting activities. They would love to do any activities that connected to ICT.

Before they start doing the work on their own, I have to explain and show them which button to switch on the the computer , which button to press to swtch on the monitor and the steps how to shut down the computer.

Then, let them to do everything by themselves by sitting in pairs and helping each other. I just monitor them by move around the class. I asked to rise up their hands, if they need helps. So far, most of them were well-behaved and concentrate doing their work. I just can hear they had a small fight who want to do the task first with their partner.

So far, they able to discipline themselves in the lab, because if they are not well-behaved, they are not allowed to use the computers.

About 5% of the students, did not know how to hold the most in the correct ways. By showing them the right ways, they managed to follow what I have taught them.

2. Task Concerns

The learning environment at that time was everything well-planned, since the students engage to do their own activity and as long as they follow the rules. Have no problems with the computers since all of it are new. The Year 1 students are already exposed to the Windows Vista Interface.

They managed to do the task given to them, they pressed the right buttons to switch on the System Unit and Monitor. I did not expect the students can do much since they are new to Windows Vista and managing their own work using the computers. But what really suprised me, without explain to them twice, about 95% of them, managed to shut down the computer using the steps that I have taught them before they start to do their work.

At the end of the lesson, I praised them with all the works they have done by clapping their hands. It is one of the positive reinforcement. Basically, all the things I have taught based on the lesson plan that I have structured for the lesson.

3.Impact-learning concerns

It is very important for the teachers to know what are the pupils needs. For the ICT subject, of course the students really wish they want to carry out the activities by engaging them using the computers. By giving the task, it is a respect for them.

The impact from not being Authorative to the students, was really worked by without shouting to them. By praising them in psychological ways, it was easy for me to manage and controlling them throughout the lesson. If they feel appreciated, the impact of the learning is they love the lesson and manage to do their own task which are given to them.

The impact can also be bvalued from our obejctives, whether it is achived or not. About 95% of the students, can finish their task on time given, which is be able to do the Switch On the SystemUnit and Monitor, anddo all the steps how to shut down the computers.
